If something happens to me, who will take care of them?
These are my dogs in the photo. And whenever I think about them, I find myself returning to an important scenario I want to address with MorningHello ☀️
Many older adults live alone with their pets. But what happens to those animals if their owner suddenly becomes ill or is unable to call for help?
I'm currently developing a new feature for MorningHello designed to address this situation:
🐾 Pet profile: The owner can provide essential information, including their address, feeding instructions, medications, health conditions, veterinary clinic contacts, and other important details.
🐾 Designated caregivers: The owner can assign a primary and a backup contact who are willing to care for their pet in an emergency.
🐾 Automatic notifications: If the owner misses their scheduled check-in, designated contacts receive an alert along with the information they need to help.
But I don't think this is enough.
What should happen if the primary caregiver doesn't respond?
Should there be an additional escalation process to notify other trusted contacts?
And how can the system confirm that the pet has actually been reached and is safe?
These are questions I'm actively thinking through as I develop this feature.
I'd really appreciate your thoughts. If you have pets, care for an older family member, or have experience with emergency planning, what would you expect a system like this to do?
Your feedback could help shape how MorningHello protects the animals who depend on us.
