A simple “I’m okay” check-in that becomes a warm morning ritual

MorningHello is an iPhone app for independent older adults and families who want to stay connected without daily check-up calls or intrusive monitoring.

The user regularly taps “I’m okay,” receives a digital postcard, and can personalise, save, or share it with family and friends.

If no new check-in reaches the server within the selected 24-, 48-, or 72-hour interval, MorningHello notifies confirmed trusted contacts by email and WhatsApp.

No continuous location tracking. No cameras. No wearables. No constant monitoring.

Reassurance without turning care into control

A regular reassurance check-in can easily start to feel like an obligation.

Even when everyone understands why it matters, repeating the same functional action every day can be difficult to turn into a lasting habit.

MorningHello connects the check-in with something positive and familiar: exchanging digital postcards with people you care about.

Instead of simply reporting “I’m okay,” the user completes a small morning ritual, receives a new postcard, and can share a warm message with someone close.

The check-in becomes an act of connection rather than a daily duty.

How MorningHello works

Contacts_EN.png

1. Add your trusted contacts

The user adds one trusted contact during the initial setup. A second contact can be added if desired.

Each contact receives an invitation and must confirm that they agree to receive MorningHello notifications.

Only confirmed contacts participate in the monitoring process and receive missed-check-in alerts.

2. Choose a check-in interval

2. Choose a check-in interval
The user chooses how often they want to check in:

  • every 24 hours;

  • every 48 hours;

  • every 72 hours.

The interval can be selected according to the person’s routine and the family’s needs.

The user regularly opens MorningHello and taps the “I’m okay” button.

A successful check-in is sent to the MorningHello server, and the countdown for the selected interval starts again.

As long as check-ins arrive on time, trusted contacts do not receive alerts.

After the check-in, the user receives a digital postcard with a warm seasonal, everyday, or holiday message.

The postcard can be:

  • personalised with a short message;

  • saved to the iPhone;

  • shared through WhatsApp, iMessage, Mail, or another compatible app installed on the device.

3. Tap “I’m okay”

4. If a check-in is missed

If the server does not receive a new check-in before the selected interval expires, MorningHello sends an alert to confirmed trusted contacts by email and WhatsApp.

The alert lets them know that the expected check-in was not received so that they can contact the user directly.

Designed for older adults who value their independence

MorningHello is designed primarily for independent iPhone users aged 65 and over who live in their own homes and want to stay connected with family without feeling watched.
It can be especially helpful for:

  • older parents who live separately from their adult children;

  • older adults who live alone;

  • families living in different cities or countries;

  • couples and loved ones separated by distance;

  • people who want reassurance without daily check-up calls;

  • families who respect independence and personal boundaries.

MorningHello does not ask the user to surrender their privacy in exchange for reassurance.

A positive reason to check in regularly

Many older adults already enjoy sending digital greeting cards as a simple sign of care and attention.

MorningHello uses this familiar social habit to make regular check-ins more pleasant and meaningful.

Each successful check-in opens the way to a new postcard connected to the season, the month, a cultural event, or a selected religious tradition.

Users can choose postcard categories related to:

  • neutral and international occasions;

  • Orthodox Christian traditions;

  • Catholic traditions;

  • Protestant traditions;

  • Jewish traditions;

  • Latin America traditions;

  • birthdays;

  • seasonal and everyday themes.

Postcards are an additional emotional feature of MorningHello. They support the habit, while the app’s central purpose remains the regular check-in and the missed-check-in alert.

Emotional wellbeing tools

MorningHello also includes simple tools that encourage users to notice their emotional state and take a small pause during the day.

Tip_EN.png

Emotional check-ins

The user can select how calm or anxious they feel and receive a short practical suggestion appropriate to the selected state.

Recent emotional check-ins can be viewed as a simple history, helping the user notice changes and recurring patterns over time.

Breathing_EN.png

Box breathing

The guided box-breathing exercise follows four equal phases:

  1. breathe in;

  2. hold;

  3. breathe out;

  4. hold.

Visual guidance and optional sound help the user follow the exercise at a comfortable pace.

These tools are intended to support everyday emotional wellbeing. They do not provide medical advice, diagnosis, treatment, or crisis intervention.

Reassurance without location tracking

MorningHello does not continuously track the user’s location.

It does not require:

  • a wearable device;

  • a home camera;

  • passive movement monitoring;

  • continuous GPS access;

  • daily phone calls;

  • access to private conversations.

The app records a check-in only when the user opens MorningHello and actively confirms “I’m okay.”

The person remains in control of the action, their contacts, and the information they choose to share.

MorningHello continues working when the phone is not in use

The MorningHello server stores the time of the last successfully received check-in and calculates when the next one is expected.

This means that the monitoring process does not depend on the app remaining open.

If the selected interval expires without a new server-confirmed check-in, the server can notify confirmed trusted contacts.

An internet connection is required when the user sends a check-in. If the check-in does not reach the server, it cannot restart the countdown.

A family-created digital product

MorningHello was created by Oksana Krylova from a personal need to stay calmly connected with loved ones who live separately.

Oksana developed the product together with her husband, Grigory, an experienced software developer.

MorningHello is an independent family-run digital product built around a simple idea: technology should help people feel connected without taking away their independence or personal space.

Important information

MorningHello is not a medical, emergency, rescue, or professional monitoring service.

The app:

  • does not determine the user’s health or safety;

  • does not continuously track location;

  • does not automatically contact an ambulance, the police, or another emergency service;

  • cannot guarantee delivery when internet access, email, WhatsApp, Apple services, or other infrastructure is unavailable.

An “I’m okay” check-in only confirms that the user opened the app and successfully sent the check-in to the MorningHello server.

If you believe someone may be in immediate danger, contact the appropriate local emergency service directly.
