How trusted contacts work in MorningHello

A trusted contact is someone who agrees to receive an alert from MorningHello if you miss a check-in within your chosen interval.

This can be an adult child, partner, relative, friend, neighbour, or another person you trust.

Your trusted contacts receive missed check-in alerts by email and WhatsApp. They do not receive routine notifications after every “I’m OK” check-in, and MorningHello does not track your location or everyday activities.

How to add a trusted contact

During setup, MorningHello invites you to add one or two trusted contacts. At least one confirmed contact is needed to receive missed check-in alerts. Adding a second person gives you another way to reach someone who cares.

Enter each person’s contact details, including their email address and phone number in international format. MorningHello sends an email invitation asking them to confirm that they agree to be your trusted contact.

The invitation explains:

  • Who has invited them.

  • Why they may receive an alert.

  • What they can do if a check-in is missed.

  • How to accept or decline the invitation.

Each person makes their own decision. Alerts are enabled for that contact only after they confirm their consent.

What contact statuses mean

You can view each person’s current status in the Contacts section of the app.

Pending – awaiting a response

The person has been invited but has not yet accepted or declined. Missed check-in alerts are not sent to contacts with this status.

If they have not responded, you can ask them to check their inbox and spam folder.

Confirmed – consent received

The person has agreed to be your trusted contact and can receive an alert if you miss your chosen check-in interval of 24, 48, or 72 hours.

They do not receive routine notifications when you check in on time.

Declined – invitation declined

The person has declined to receive alerts. You can choose someone else and send them an invitation.

If a contact later withdraws their consent, alerts to that person stop.

When a trusted contact receives an alert

You choose a check-in interval of 24, 48, or 72 hours. Each successful “I’m OK” check-in starts a new countdown.

If MorningHello’s server does not receive your next check-in before that interval ends, it sends an alert to your confirmed trusted contacts by email and WhatsApp, asking them to check on you.

The server continues to track the check-in deadline even when the app is closed or your phone is switched off.

An alert means that a check-in has been missed. Your trusted contact can call, send a message, arrange a visit, or decide what further help is needed.

What information a trusted contact can see

Being your trusted contact does not give someone access to your app or a dashboard of your daily activities.

MorningHello does not share your location, movements, phone contents, other contacts, private wishes, or postcard-sharing history.

Your emotional check-ins and Stay Connected reminders remain private on your device and are not sent to your trusted contacts.

If you have added a pet profile, the care information you provide helps your trusted contacts understand what your pet may need if an unexpected situation arises.

Contact consent and monitoring status

A contact’s consent and your monitoring status are separate.

The Contacts section shows whether each person has agreed to receive alerts. The main screen shows the current monitoring status and, when monitoring is active, the time remaining until your next check-in.

A confirmed contact alone does not mean monitoring is active. Check the status shown in the app.

What happens when you remove a contact

You can remove a trusted contact from MorningHello.

Once the removal has been successfully saved:

  • The person is excluded from future missed check-in alerts.

  • MorningHello notifies them that they are no longer your trusted contact.

  • Their details disappear from your Contacts list.

If you later add the same person again, they will receive a new invitation and need to confirm their consent again.

If you remove your only confirmed contact, add another person and wait for their confirmation so someone can receive your alerts.

Can a trusted contact opt out?

Yes. A person can decline the invitation or withdraw their consent later.

Once their consent is withdrawn, MorningHello stops sending them missed check-in alerts. You can review your contacts in the app and invite someone else.

Everyone chooses whether they want to take part.

Why consent matters

MorningHello helps people care for one another while respecting their independence and privacy.

Accepting an invitation means that your trusted contact:

  • Knows who has invited them.

  • Understands why an alert may arrive.

  • Is willing to reach out if you miss a check-in.

  • Chooses to receive these notifications.

This shared understanding makes your circle of care more reliable and gives everyone a clear role.

A trusted contact is someone you trust, rather than an emergency services professional.

MorningHello:

  • Does not assess your health.

  • Does not track your location.

  • Does not automatically contact emergency services.

  • Cannot guarantee alert delivery in the event of technical problems, connectivity issues, or incorrect contact details.

If someone’s life or health is in immediate danger, contact local emergency services directly.
